It’s probably best to start this article by saying that I’m not the biggest fan of sports Anime. I’ve tried to watch a few because of the cute characters, but Yuri on Ice! was the only show that I actually finished. So, I’m a bit out of my comfort zone, mostly because I don’t have many reference points. Even so, I’ll try my best to share helpful information on each episode to create some discussion among the 2.43: Seiin Koukou Danshi Volley-Bu fans.

The thing that caught my eye right away was how cute the main characters are. Yuni especially is my type of male character. He has a ‘masculine’ appearance but can still look cute here and there (especially when he’s blushing). Kimichika, on the other hand, is an interesting character due to what happened with his earlier teammates. He isn’t my type at all (I don’t like cold guys), but he offered the episode a more serious tone.

Still, it was impossible to overlook some problems right off the bat. Because of how Yuni acts when he’s near Kimichika, it’s easy to fall into the trap of thinking that 2.43 is a BL story – it’s not. I believe that’s the main reason why that scene where Yuni tries to look below his cousin’s skirt was inserted. It felt out of place and didn’t add anything to the story. I would rather prefer that the Anime left it in the open – I mean, no straight guy gushes over a childhood friend as Yuni does. Hopefully, I’m wrong, and it’s BL – but I think that the story is more likely to go into the guys always interacting in a way they seem lovers but never end up committing to a homosexual relationship.

The scene where Kuroba’s friends seem to bully Yuni didn’t sit right with me either. Although I’m completely fine with Kuroba being jealous (even if they’re just friends) of Kimichika, it doesn’t make sense that the guy doesn’t defend Yuni – the friend he seems to care so much about. Still, overall, the Anime showed promise. It’s a sports Anime, alright, but it seems to have a deeper story that will explore the themes of mental illnesses and how not to put everything behind because of an objective.

I’ll be adding new galleries throughout the season as new episodes come out. Enjoy! If you have a website and want to use one of my images, feel free to do so. I’ll be happy if you backlink to this article, but it’s not mandatory.
