2.43: Seiin Koukou Danshi Volley-bu Episode 4 Discussion & Gallery

There was a lot I enjoyed about 2.43 Seiin Koukou Danshi Volley-bu episode four. First of all, I liked the pace a lot. We got to see the team training through Summer camp and play an official game in just one episode. The animation continues to surprise me, especially when it comes to Yuni’s design – he’s just too cute. Finally, I was happy to see some character development – not only when it comes to the main characters’ relationship but also regarding Yuni’s cousin. Overall, it was a well-rounded episode that had everything you could expect from 2.43.

Still, the episode wasn’t perfect, and there are a few parts that I would change a bit. I don’t understand the need to continue the agenda of showing that the protagonists are straight. I mean, this is one of those things that you shouldn’t have the characters bluntly say, as Kimichika did when telling everyone that there were girls he liked. The thing is – the way Yuni approaches Kimichika (and how Kimichika is more interested in Yuni’s relationship with his male cousin) just has gay energy all over it. So, again, it would be best not to say anything from the beginning and just leave the characters’ sexuality in the open.

On the other hand, I also didn’t enjoy the unnecessary drama started at the beginning of the episode. Since Yuni is so good, Kimichika decides to have him out of the training sessions. That’s alright and all, but why didn’t he tell Yuni off the bat the reason behind it? Of course that Yuni thought that Kimichika didn’t think much about his volleyball abilities.
