Akudama Drive Episode 4 Discussion & Gallery
I’m not sure what to say about Akudama Drive episode four without repeating myself. In short, I loved it! It was fast-paced, exciting, and funny. That’s what I’ve grown to expect from Akudama Drive, and I’m happy to see they haven’t failed to deliver even once. Most of the episode focused on the fight between the akudamas and the executioners, so not much story was developed. Despite this, the battle animation was so freaking cool. The mix between fast-paced and slow-motion, matrix-like, scenes was done perfectly, and I don’t get tired of it. I was also happy to finally see the cutthroat getting serious – he’s far stronger than he looks.
There’s just a small thing that didn’t add up – the time to finish the mission. For someone who only has three minutes to get to (and open) a vault, they didn’t walk that fast. Not only that, but the Swindler and the cat were always stopping to explain something about the world or the train ride. This is extremely important, as the story happens in a completely alienated fantasy world. Still, there’s time and place for everything, and when running for their lives in a blazing fast train is not one of them.
Nonetheless, I got intrigued by the end! I’m sad that the cat has disappeared, but I’m pretty curious to know what is going to happen next. I already imagined that the mastermind behind the robot cat wanted to save himself, but I wasn’t expecting to find two kids inside the vault. Especially when they seem to have some kind of superpower – the girl stopped the train and created a massive defensive barrier by only playing a few notes on her flute, after all.
