Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Episode 14 Discussion & Gallery

We already know that Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Gou is actually a sequel – not a reboot of the original as it was initially marketed. Since the authors said it was fine and that newcomers to the series would be able to understand everything, I was completely fine with it. But Higurashi’s episode 14 came to show that newcomers are losing some bits of information that impact their reaction while watching the Anime. I’m speaking about Rika and Hanyuu’s conversation, of course.

Although I got the gist of it – Rika already had overcome all of these ordeals in the past and was able to age until her teenage years – she was sent back to the past once again, and she’s now living through the same ordeals as before. That’s fine and all, but I believe this scene would be far more impactful if I had watched the original. I’m pretty sure that Hanyuu’s definitely disappearing would hit hard if I knew her better. As a newcomer, though, it really didn’t have much emotional impact.

The rest of the episode was ok. Still not sure why the detective became possessed by the deity, but at least we got to see some cool, gory deaths. When it comes to the hide-and-seek scene, I found it a bit childish, especially considering Rika’s 100 years old. Finally, I’m not sure how knowing her last killer will help Rika finding a happy ending in the next arc. Did you enjoy Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Gou’s episode 14? Tell me everything down below. ?
