Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Episode 17 Discussion & Gallery

So, Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Gou episode 17 was even weirder than the previous ones. I’m guessing the episode starts with how the original ended. I mean, Miyo confesses about what she was scheming, we get to know that Satoko’s brother is in the village clinic being treated, and even a guy who we never saw before got arrested for being part of the Hinamizawa Syndrome phenomenon.

In fact, if we didn’t know that there are still some more episodes to finish the sequel, we could even think that this was the last episode. Everyone was finally able to survive the festival night, and Rika and her friends are able to enjoy a peaceful day without much trouble. However, the Anime does leave some seeds here and there, showing that there’s more to the story than what meets the eye, as Rika asks herself if there’s someone else pulling the strings of fate. And she was correct.

I’m not sure what they’re going to do with this but having Satoku as the mastermind of all this is extremely surprising. I mean, not even once I thought that she could be the one behind it. Maybe she’s just being possessed, and it’s not really her who’s doing everything, but she does have a motive – she more than once said to Rika that she would prefer that she stayed in the village and enjoyed her life there. This way, she might have some attachment problems (probably due to what she went through in the past) that makes her do everything in her power to stay close to Rika. Even if that means sending her back to the ordeals that made her want to live in the first place. What do you think? Tell me your theories down below. ?
