Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Episode 19 Discussion & Gallery

Ok – so, Higurashi no Noko Koro ni Gou episode 19 was quite interesting. I’m pretty sure we already left the original ending, and we are now watching what happened in that particular timeline for Satoko to go mad. For a second, I thought the main problem was that she wasn’t going to be able to ingress in the prestigious school even after studying so much. But Higurashi went even further. Before I go over that, let me say that the studying montage where we see Satoko and Rika helping each other enter one of the most prestigious schools in the area was heartwarming. It shows how much they care for each other, and I loved their 3-year evolution.

Now – the new school. Let me start by saying that Satoko should never have enrolled in that school to start with. I understand that the two main characters only have each other and probably share a stronger bond than many siblings out there. However, there’s always a time where people need to go their own ways. It’s clear that Rika and Satoko have severe co-dependence problems, where they can’t function without being together. Of course, this is a recipe for disaster, as Satoko enrolls in a school that doesn’t have anything to do with her.

However, is it enough for someone to go mad and pull her best friend to a terrible loop of deaths? No! Sure, Rika might have been in the wrong there. She knows Satoko better than anyone, so it’s clear that she decided to put a friend on the side to live the aristocratic life she wished for. However, Satoko was also in the wrong in some ways. For example, when Rika offers her help, Satoko shoots her down, saying that she’s more than capable of keeping up with the school difficulty (while in secret, she’s taking extra classes). She’s also falling behind the class because she doesn’t want to study. Yeah – Satoko says she hates studying, but most of us don’t like to study either, and we do it anyway. In the end, I still feel that things blew up out of proportion, and Satoko’s reason for putting her friend through so much pain isn’t strong enough.
