Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Episode 21 Discussion & Gallery

The more Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Gou gets into Satoko’s story, the more I understand her motives. Indeed, Rika went through hell by living the same week over and over again and dying at the end of it. However, Satoko’s loops take several years to get to their final stage. This means that after years of wishful thinking that Rika would treat her differently, she realizes that her best friend ends up treating her the same way as before.

It’s important to understand that, for the most part, Satoko thinks that the encounter with the deity was just a dream. This changes my perspective on the character, as she only decided to go back in time after losing her mind for the second time. Of course, I also believe that Satoko doesn’t know that Rika went through hundreds of loops where everyone dies. At least until this season, that is.

I’m curious to see what comes next, as I find it hard to believe that these two characters will be able to remain friends after knowing all this. On the one hand, Satoko will always know that Rika would put her aside if she went to that fancy school. On the other hand, Rika will know that Satoko is the reason why she came back to the worst part of her life. Honestly, if this was real life, I can’t see how two friends would be able to forgive each other, no matter how strong their bond was. Did you enjoy Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Gou’s episode eight?
