Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Episode 24 (Final) Discussion & Gallery

I’m extremely confused after watching Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Gou’s final episode. I know that a sequel is already in the making, but I still fail to understand how there’s enough story for a season. Until now, I thought that we were watching Satoko’s side of the story. In other words, how Satoko made everything in her power to end in a worldline where Rika decides to stay in the village. However, after the closing bit, it seems that we’ve been watching Satoko’s point of view before the beginning of the series. As I said, it’s quite confusing.

Let’s see if I can explain this in a simple way. Before we get to know that Satoko is also able to go back in time, the story is put to a halt in a timeline where Rika wants to stay in the village. In other words, Satoko has been successful. She was able to tweak all the required events to have Rika stay in the village. From there, we got several episodes on why Satoko became a bit crazy and decided to do everything in her power to change fate. Since Rika is only able to go to that school after she’s able to run away from her own fate, those scenes are supposed to happen after season one.

Then, we get Satoko going back and forward, trying all kinds of possibilities, just to find that Rika always wants to go to the school no matter what she does. I would imagine that all of this happened before this season’s beginning. Although she’s able to go back in time, she always ends up killing herself and not killing Rika herself. Now, at the end of the episode, Satoko says that she’s going to have Rika go through all those ordeals from the original Anime to break her and have her stay in the village. In fact, the thing she says about Rika going against the deity’s wishes is something that she had said earlier on, in the episode where she takes Rika’s organs out. In short, it seems she’s speaking about the events that happened at the beginning of this sequel.

Meanwhile, the way she ends the episode seems that she’s offering a sneak peek at what’s going to happen in the sequel. So, in the end, I can’t really understand what’s going to happen next. For me, the show should have ended with episode 24. Another season is just going to drag a story that has been completely told. The second half of Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Gou goes over events that happened before this first half of the season. It also explains why people ended up having different reactions than the first time Rika went through those events.

From there, I can only see a final match-up between Rika and Satoko. By knowing all this, Rika will have to react. And I’m sure she’s not going to be happy. I wonder how the authors are going to be able to expand on this for a full season, though. Did you enjoy Higurashi’s final episode? Tell me everything down below. ?

I’ll be adding new galleries throughout the season as new episodes come out. Enjoy! If you have a website and want to use one of my images, feel free to do so ? I’ll be happy if you backlink to this article, but it’s not mandatory ?
