Jujutsu Kaisen Episode 5 Discussion & Gallery
What’s the best way to start an episode than having someone pulling their own heart and throwing it away? For the first half of Jujutsu Kaisen’s episode 5, we got to enjoy the one-sided battle between Sukuma and Megumi. The animation was great, obviously, but what I enjoyed the most was the small hints about Megumi’s story during this scene. Sukuma even said something that seemed like Megumi isn’t using his full force. I’m guessing that since he’s able to command curses without having to forcefully bide them, he probably can befriend stronger curses.
We also got to see that Megumi cares about the curses fighting alongside them, as he frees the one who was protecting him. In other words, he preferred to fight Sukuma with no help instead of destroying the curse helping him. Finally, the small bit about the girl who inspired him to be an exorcist is quite important and builds his character. The only thing I didn’t understand was how/why Itadori was able to regain self-control – I guess what Megumi said had an impact, but I don’t feel it was something that important to have so much influence on Itadori’s subconscious.
The last half of the episode was to further explain the main story, as well as the next steps. For the former, we got to see what I expect to be Jujutsu Kaisen’s main problem – special-graded curses that can behave just like a person working together with a human with the objective of killing everyone and have curses rule the world. For the latter, we met some of the main characters’ upperclassmen, and it seems a championship is going to happen. I’m quite excited about this one, as it seems it’s going to be pretty similar to The God of High School. This means exciting fights with excellent animation – can’t wait to see it!
