Kumo Desu ga, Nani ka? Episode 5 Discussion & Gallery
Is it just me, or is Kumoko slowly becoming the new demon lord? From what I could gather from episode five, my favorite spider just decided to take the easiest route to level by choosing the skill pride. However, as this is considered one of the seven deadly sins, she ended up leveling her Taboo skill, which is not supposed to be leveled up at all. Later in the episode, we also get to know that people with the Taboo skill are hunted by the church, which means the path Kumoko chose isn’t going to be a happy one. On top of that, all of this gave her the level one skill (or is it a title?) of demon lord. Honestly, I hope that’s what happens because I would love to see Kumoko as the almighty demon lord.
All of this is explained somewhat in detail throughout the episode. In fact, Kumo Desu ga, Nani ka? spends some minutes going over Kumoko’s new skills. Of course, this could have become boring quite fast, but the Anime was able to deliver all of this information in a hilarious way through Kumoko’s inner thoughts and reactions. I wonder if Fei will end up fighting together with Kumoko in the future. Since she ate a dragon and got the kin trait, she also inherited the Taboo skill, meaning that she will be hunted down if the church discovers this. While I’m not happy with what Fei did to the main character in her past life, it’s an interesting possibility that I would like to watch.
The rest of the episode was spent with Kumoko trying to pass the fire cavern. I liked how she wasn’t prepared the first time she got in and had to go back to level up a bit first. It translated quite well how things happen in a video game (it’s also good for the character build-up as I hate when characters are always able to fight everything off the bat).
