3 Reasons Why You Should Watch Fire Force
Hello everyone and welcome to our shelter π
Today, I’m going to give you my three 3 main reasons why Fire Force is worth watching. So, if you are wondering if Fire Force (Enen no Shouboutai) is worth watching, my answer is yes!
But, before we jump into it I just want to give my condolences to KyoAni – Kyoto Animation – Studios. For the ones who don’t know, on the 18th of July 2019, an arson attack took place in Kyoani’s Studio 1. It took the life of 35 people and another 34 were injured. The disaster is being claimed as the deadliest massacre in Japan since World War 2. Because of this, and since Fire Force is, well about fire, it was decided to postpone Episode 3. Moreover, the episode was also censored and it seems that they will continue to do it for a while.
One example of this is the ending. In episode 1 and 2, we can see a frame with many sisters on fire. Well, if you look it up in episode 3, you will see this frame was taken out. Moreover, in this episode, the rookies are doing a drill on a building where they need to catch an infernal. The strange thing is the building is not on fire. I mean, it would make sense to have a scene similar to reality, right? Even if it was just a drill/championship. Even with censorship, the episode was great and I have to give props to the creators taking this into account.
If there is a moment where Anime lovers should come together, this is one of them. Now, I said my piece, so, let’s start on why you should watch Fire Force!
Interesting Characters
A good story is only delivered if it’s guided by great characters. Let’s face it, even with the best story ever. If we have bland characters we won’t care about what’s happening to them. A good example happening this summer season is Hajime from Arifureta. Although the problem here is more about the buildup than the character itself.
However, I do understand why Animes end up bulking in the most action possible right in the first episodes. Let’s be honest, when it comes to shounen, we all love those action scenes. So, if you get a first episode without much happening, you probably decide that the Anime is not for you and just skip the Anime entirely. That’s why I believe it’s so important to have a balance.
Fortunately, that’s what happens with Fire Force. Right from the bat, we get an action scene to makes us hooked on the episode. But, then, we are gifted with a nice background story of the main character. This part explains us who is Shinra and where he comes from. Something that makes his goals, personality and wants to seem natural. Of course, this is also important to make him a deep character.
It’s true that, until now, we didn’t have much development in the other characters. Yet, when it comes to sister Iris, we can get a glimpse of her past during the ending song. In this case, we get a happy convent full of happy sisters which went dark real fast due to infernals. The pace of the ending is great and strong, making you love this cute sister even more!
I’m also pretty sure we will get genuine backgrounds for the remain characters. Something that I believe it’s important and completely changes the light of a story.
Exceptional Fight Animation
When it comes to battles, I believe Fire Force has the best animation of 2019. There are indeed some other Anime shows with great animation this year. However, none is able to create movement in such a smooth and flawless way.
This, without using the help of 3D animation which is amazing. As we know, 3D is being more and more used in Anime. This Summer Season we have both Vinland Saga and Arifureta using it. But, it’s not like they are alone on this. Who doesn’t remember the cool matrix scene from Goblin Slayer some months ago?
However, it takes time to create such good animation. And, since Fire Force has to come out on a weekly basis, what is the cost of such good battles? Well, when there is not a battle, most of the animation does not have a lot of movement. We get a lot of still frames, as also some scenes where could get some improvement here and there.
Even so, overall, the animation is pretty solid. The character design is good and the creators know how to give a dark vibe to the scene. Moreover, even when there are no fights, we do get some gorgeous pics.
And, to be honest, I don’t mind the slower pace in movement to have the extremely well-done battles which Fire Force gives us. They are one of a kind and I can’t even remember the last time I watched something so well done.
A Fresh Concept
Every time I finish a season, I always think to myself what are they going to do now. Clearly, all good ideas were already taken and we are only getting recycled ideas from now on. And, every time I’m proven wrong. I don’t know how, but it seems there is always a story set in a distinct setting coming our way.
I would never think about the setting they are using in Fire Force. Who would have thought that someone was going to get inspiration on firefighters and create a Shounen from there? I’m amazed and extremely happy to see that I’m proven wrong and creativity has no boundaries.
It’s nice to see an Anime that doesn’t follow clichΓ©s or tries to follow story paths similar to other popular Anime. Of course, we have what you would expect from a shounen. The main character is hated all his childhood and wants to be a hero for example. However, it’s more than that! Again, with such detailed backgrounds, the characters become like people. By becoming like people, they are always different from any other character out there, even with similar traits.
The only thing I would change is the jokes and fanservice. I feel both are way too into your face and not really that amazing. At least, for me, the jokes never work and… When it comes to the fanservice, I just feel they are trying too hard. The rest though is nicely done!
Is Fire Force Worth Watching?
The quick answer is yes! As I said, Fire Force is a pretty decent and solid Anime. It has a good build-up so far and it seems it will have a compelling story. Even if it doesn’t, there is no way you can turn your back to such good animation.
What about you? Have you watched Fire Force? What are your thoughts on it? Tell me everything in the comments down below! π
Fire Force is one of the four shows that I am watching this season, and it really is amazing? It’s just so sad this series is plagued now by such a horrible event. It’s absolutely amazing that they are taking extra measures here. That is showing absolute respect…it’s truly heartwarming.
I am really enjoying the series so far, but I definitely agree with you on the fanservice aspect. That seemed totally out of place and inappropriate. Looking forward to the rest of this show though! Great post as always!?
Completely agree with you! I just hope that those measures don’t take anything from the series. I understand how they feel. However, if they end up with an ok Anime instead of a great one, I believe they are just giving more strenght to the culprit π
Normally, Fanservice is never proper haha but I understand what you mean and I agree 100% XD
Thank you~! <3
I’m enjoying Fire Force but it isn’t really rising up in my listing for this season because despite looking great the story and characters still haven’t quite grabbed me. It all works and I absolutely love the visuals with the flames and action, but in a season this full of great shows, Fire Force is kind of sitting in the middle of my listings at this point. Maybe it will grow on me as we learn more about the characters and the world.
Really? I like Shinra and I think they told his backstory in a nice way. They have also been balancing pretty well action with the overall story. And, although not in the show yet, that ending with sister Iris background is also pretty awesome. I believe it will grow on you. My only fear is if they are going to create a good and interesting story around the bad guy since for now he just seems to do what he does with no reason at all.
I tend to watch Summer Anime in Fall seson and binge entire series in a weekend or so. This so far is on my maybe list.
Fan service really can break suspense of disbelief for me personally. I could not get trough High School of the Dead because of itβs fanservice. So I would be intrigued to find out more as the season goes on!
Well, Fire Force does not have as much fanservice as High School of the Dead (at least so far). However, it’s way worst placed. Meaning, High School of The Dead has fanservice the entire season and it’s always there while Fire Force is just one scene here and there, but it completely takes you out of the immersion because of how missplaced and in your face is.
I have been hearing really good things about Fire Force all around so I hope to pick it up one of these days!
I think you will like it π Not the best Anime of 2019. But, a decent and solid Anime nonetheless π
I’ve gotta finish 07 Ghost and s1 of Gintama before anything else but I think I’ll give it a shot after that! Which gives me the added bonus of having since episodes built up β€
