Synopsis
When he was a kid, Daisuke Dojima was kidnapped. Milo, a strange pink-haired girl appeared and helped Daisuke’s friends finding him and saving him. On that night, Milo told Daisuke that one day in the future, he will be the saviour of his friends and therefore had to train to protect them.
Many years in the future, Daisuke has developed to a teenager with a hero complex who ends up annoying all of his childhood friends always trying to protect them, even when they don’t need to. However, one day, everyone that was in that night receives a message saying that the day afterwards will be the day when everything will happen.
Truth enough, the next day, the centre of Shibuya is transported to 300 years in the future and our main character’s school is attacked by some strange robots. Milo ends up appearing, although she doesn’t remember any of the kids and gives a mecha robot so Daisuke can save the day.
Story
Until now, the story is pretty simple, but somewhat well done. It has some mystery attached to it regarding Milo not remembering any of the people in the group. Since the story involves time travel, this probably means that the Milo they got to know in their past was a Milo from the future of the events happening at the moment.
There is still not much to it though. For example, the mecha robots that exist in the future were created to work the best with our main characters. However, there is still no explanation of why is that. The 3 first episodes were used to introduce the characters, then it was time for everything to happen, and only now, on the third episode, things are starting to get explained, very slowly and with a lot of action in the middle.
I have to say that I love how dark the show can go. It makes a good job in showing what people normally do when they see their life on the line such as the students pushing each other to be able to run, while at the same time the teacher closing the roof door to save herself, even if there are still students who are being attacked and probably will die with that door closed.
Characters
The main character is a bit annoying! Ok, maybe a lot! He has developed a hero complex and has been waiting for the day the world would fall down since he was a child, so he ends up being too eager to fight and show that it was right… Even if that means he ends up not doing his job and doesn’t do what he’s supposed to do in the middle of the mission, putting everyone in danger.
When it comes to the other characters, there is still not much to be said. With so much action and things happening, there was no time to actually get to know the other characters a little better.
Animation
The animation is completely in 3D and heavy on CGI. To be honest, it’s one of the best 3D anime shows I’ve ever seen! Although there are still some movements that seem a little off, most of the time it’s well done. In fact, it’s astonishing how much well done is most of the movement. I mean, it’s nothing completely out of your mind. But, if we take into mind that it’s in 3D… Well, it is ahead of the game of what we have seen so far!
When it comes to the more gore-ish, darker stuff, it’s also well done! Nothing too violent or way too much. I would say, for the Anime’s vibe, it’s just in the right dose! To be honest, I wasn’t expecting Revisions to have a bloodier side, so I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the students getting ripped apart by the machines… Yeah, I’m a gore lover, what can I do? XD
Audio
The intro music does not really speak that much to me! It lacks the power that an intro song an Anime like Revisions should have! And, even if we put the power aside, the music feels a bit generic and nothing really that noteworthy.
The voice acting is the star when it comes to the audio. It is very well done and smooth. The conversations just seem natural and never feel out of place.
The background music is also not really that bad! I mean, it’s not great and it’s not even close to the best I’ve ever heard, but it does the job 🙂
Final Verdict
I believe Revisions will not have much traction during the season. Not because is bad, but because it seems that many people will have a hard time watching this in a legal way. Something which is a bummer!
Even though Revisions does not add anything new to the game and that the main lead is a bit of annoying, I believe many people would have fun watching this. Moreover, even though the 3D animation is still not as good as what we get when we see Anime which goes for the more traditional route, it’s nice to see Revisions going full 3D and be appealing enough to catch my attention.
In conclusion, if you are into mecha you should definitely give it a try. And, even if you are not into mecha (I’m not) it’s still a nice one to give a chance if you are into Sci-Fi, Time Traveling kind of thing… Don’t expect anything too deep, but it’s interesting nonetheless.
Final Score: Average!
