Who Is Gonna Be Fuutarou’s Bride in Gotoubun no Hanayome?
Hello everyone and welcome to our place! 🙂
Today we will be talking about Gotoubun no Hanayome which is the Anime with the most alternative titles I ever saw. You can call it 5-toubun no Hanayome, The Five Wedded Brides, The Quintessential Quintuplets and you even have that in some places you will find Go-toubun no Hanayome. Since MAL calls it by the first name, I will be addressing this Anime with that name… Really, how the hell does an Anime show have so many freaking games?
The story is about a poor highschooler student whose family is under a lot of debt. Fuutarou Uesugi is an intelligent guy who does not mingle with anyone with perfect scores. One day, a transfer student girl sits with him for lunch, something that never happens. They start their relationship in a bad manner, but, after Fuutarou finds out that the road to take out his family out of debt is by giving that same girl tutoring, he tries to get in good terms with her.
But, something that he was not expecting is that he also has to tutor all of her 4 siblings. More than that, these 5 girls, although different (physically and psychological) are quintuplets! Fuutarou now has the job of making these girls get good grades when, just last year, all of them were almost failing.
It’s a Harem!
If you weren’t able to get that from the synopsis… Gotoubun no Hanayome is a harem! Or at least, I’m pretty sure that’s what it’s going to develop to. What other reason would we have a story where a guy has to spend his time with 5 beautiful women in their house?
To be honest, the episode did not give me much to make me interested or excited. Truth is, it seems to be the generic harem where the main cause for them to be together is pretty basic… We have Itsuki, Ichika, Miku, Nino, and Yotsuba Nanako. All of them represent a different personality. I wouldn’t say that they fall into some kind of stereotype. It’s true they do have some of the troupes, but they don’t seem to be your typical generic girls, having a little more to add than just the said stereotype.
Comes with three face plates including a standard expression, a sulking expression and a blushing expression

For me, that is a good thing! However, I have to say that the first episode was not that much of interest. The episode was all about presenting the characters and the setting which made it in a somewhat good manner and pace. However, for now, what I have to say is that I don’t really have strong feelings about this one. Neither good or bad.
On one hand, the funny scenes were not that funny. On the other hand, the more serious and “cute” scenes didn’t really reach my feelings. So, what I have to say is that I’m gonna need a little more time until I decide if this is an Anime worth mine (and your) while.
5 Girls, 1 Bride
Truth is, the story seems to be quite predictable… I’m pretty sure Itsuki is the one who is going to be Fuutarou’s bride in the future. I mean, she is the one who meets him first and she is the one who, right from the bat, gets to know Fuutarou (and his struggles) better. To have this kind of development it’s because she will be the one more important to the story and, therefore, going to be the one marrying him.
So, with a harem setting which is nothing that you could call new, and a plotline easy to understand what is gonna happen next, I think Gotoubun no Hanayome quality will be a lot about the character evolution and relationships that is gonna develop. All the rest seems to be pretty forgettable so far.
Also, for the ones who like fanservice (which is something harems usually give), I have to say that there were not many scenes during episode 1 worth your while…
Nevertheless, it is still episode 1 and there are still many things that can happen! Let’s hope those things will bring quality up and not lower 😀
