As Low As $29.99 for Demon Slayer

If we say we shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, I think we should say to not judge an Anime by its first episode. Honestly, I don’t abide by this rule most times. When I started Maou Gakuin no Futekigousha, I genuinely thought I was watching yet another Anime where the main character is way stronger than anyone else, and that would be the running gag throughout the series. In fact, I was this close to just drop it right away. However, considering the number of people watching and the above-average score on MAL, I decided to give it another try. Thank god I did it, as Maou Gakuin no Futekigousha turned out to be a quite exciting Anime to follow.

The story is about Anos (great name, I know) Voldigoald, who is the reincarnation of the first demon lord. Hmm, reincarnation might not be the best description. See, the thing about Anos Voldigoald is that he is, in fact, the former demon lord who died 2,000 years ago. Regardless of what you call it, the thing is – the world is way different than what he remembers, and the actual facts have become a bit blur throughout the ages. Like any other teenager, Anos has to enroll in the demon’s academy, even if he’s stronger than his teachers. Here he starts befriending other students while trying to understand why people can’t remember his former self.

Interesting Story So Far

I’ve watched five episodes so far, and not only am I curious to watch what’s going to happen next, but I’m also quite surprised by what has already happened. Besides explaining the story’s setting and a bit of Ano’s character, the first episodes focused on Misha’s and Sasha’s story – two twin sisters who don’t seem to get along. Since I don’t want to spoil you, I’ll leave the details out. However, I wasn’t expecting that the Anime would get so serious so soon. Moreover, the unfolding of events was actually something I wasn’t anticipating, which, after watching over 200 Animes, is quite rare nowadays.

I’m also curious about the main plot. We already had a glimpse of what happened and why Anos died 2,000 years ago. Still, it’s not clear why everyone thinks the demon lord is another person than the real one. I’m sure this will clash into a final epic battle where Anos won’t win as easily as every fight he had so far, which gotta say – it’s pretty exciting.

Anos Is Also an Appealing Character Overall

When I think about demon lords, evil characters come to mind. Not sure why, but that’s how most stories paint them, and I guess I’m used to that. Therefore, it’s refreshing to see a demon lord who isn’t as mean as he initially seemed. You shouldn’t double-cross him, though, as Anos have shown already that his punishments are quite heavy. That being said, if you’re just a normal person, living your life honestly, he’s a nice guy to have around.

Another misconception I had was that Anos was going to be a conceited character who thought he was better than everyone – he IS the demon lord after all. Well, I couldn’t be far from the truth. If I had to compare it with anyone, I would say the Third Hokage from Naruto. He’s wise, serious, strong, and he loves his people and wants society to prosper. He not only is patient with his classmates and parents, but he goes even further to step away from his path to make them happy.

Maou Gakuin no Futekigousha Misha cute

In conclusion, Maou Gakuin no Futekigousha ended up being way more fun to watch than expected. It really is a good story with original characters, and I’m sure I’ll be following this one to the last episode. Hopefully, the Anime will maintain the same quality throughout the Summer season. Considering all the potential and started plot lines, I’m pretty sure it will.
