2.43: Seiin Koukou Danshi Volley-bu Episode 6 Discussion & Gallery

I’m not sure whether this is usual for sports Animes or not, but I really enjoyed that we got an overview of the team Seiin is going to play against in the following episodes. It offers higher depth to the characters and will make the following game so much better. Honestly, for those I’ve seen so far, I can’t remember many that had something similar. But again, I haven’t watched most of the sports Anime I’ve started. So, there’s that.

Even though 2.43 Seiin Koukou Danshi Volley-bu focuses on another team, there’s something that everyone seems to share – drama. I never thought that high school boys could be so dramatic, but maybe I just went to a boring school when I was a teenager. Still, the story about this team’s main characters is a bit more realistic, as both had severe injuries on their knees, which made them stop playing temporarily. And I know that this is the biggest trope of all sports Anime, but it’s also the most realistic. Unfortunately, many people stop pursuing their athletic dreams after a serious injury.

Speaking about serious – these guys seem to take volleyball way too seriously. Don’t take me wrong – it’s more than normal for professional athletes to be pretty serious about their sport when they’re teenagers. However, most of these kids seem to play volleyball for fun, not as a profession. So, I don’t understand why the other team’s manager would decide to stay one extra year in high school to see his team reaching the finals.
