Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Episode 1 Discussion & Gallery

I’ve tried to watch Higurashi no Naku Koro ni back in the day. However (don’t ask me how), I ended up watching the sequel first. So, basically, I didn’t understand anything that I was watching. Still, I loved the horror aspect of the Anime and ended up watching it until the end. When I read that a remake was going to launch this Fall season, I couldn’t be happier. I never went back and watched the first season, so this is the perfect time to rewatch Higurashi no Naku Koro ni from start to finish and actually understand what the hell is happening.

The first episode was quite alright. Since the Anime is trying to follow the original by heart and is already scheduled to have 26 episodes instead of the usual 13, it’s a bit more laidback than other introductory episodes. Despite this, we still get enough time to meet the main characters and get a feeling about their personalities. Simultaneously, we’re also introduced to the main mystery happening in the village. While there’s proof that a murder occurred nearby, none of the girls tell the truth when questioned by the main character. This arrives at its climax at the end of the episode when Keiichi finds concrete proof about the murder, and Rena appears with a sharp object ready to kill him. The perfect cliffhanger for mystery and horror lovers like myself.

I’m also happy with what they did with the animation. Obviously, it’s way better than it was back in the day – it’s more polished, sharpened, and has better lighting effects. But they maintained the original artistic vibe of Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, which is a big plus for fans of the Anime. What about you? Have you watched the Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Gou?
