Is Nakanohito Genome Worth Watching?
Hello everyone, and welcome to our shelter! 🙂 Today we are going to go over the Anime that puts a bunch of streamers together “fighting” for their lives to get views to be able to get out of this strange (and dangerous) place conducted by a llama. Of course, I’m talking about Nakanohito Genome – The Ones Within – one of the Anime shows that had one of the most exciting premises for my Anime tastes. However, does Nakanohito Genome lived to my expectations? Well, let us see!
Nakanohito Genome Synopsis
I’ve seen some people around comparing Nakanohito with Dangaroonpa and, although I can understand where they are getting the similarities, I still think both Animes are very different.
Although all of them play different games, a group of streamers unblocks the same hidden content called “Nakanohito Genome”, which ends up to be a real-life game. All of them wake up in an unknown place where they now will have to play games for views. In other words, what they already do on a daily basis. However, this time, their lives are on the line. Each member has its own favorite genre that goes from farming to horror games, and the same happens with each one of the ‘trials’. If on episode one the Anime focuses on a horror game, on episode 2 it’s all about nurturing and dating simulators.
As you can see, there are some similarities with Dangaronpa – a bunch of teenagers finds themselves in an unknown place where they need to fight for their lives. However, contrary to Dangaronpa, the characters are not instigated to kill each other but work together instead.
Characters and Plot are Not Too Deep
To be honest, Nakanohito Genome ends up to be quite lighthearted and not really that deep. However, that doesn’t mean it’s terrible. For example, while character-wise is impossible to show much development when there are eight main characters, I still feel that, during the first three episodes, each one of the characters shared screen time equally.
When it comes to the plot, I can’t really feel the mystery around it. Yes, there is a mystery present, I mean, we don’t know what the hell is happening. However, contrary to other Animes with similar settings, I don’t feel much mystery vibes surrounding Nakanohito Genome. Yeah, they are trying to find who is this strange llama and what is happening, but Nakanohito Genome focuses more on the games happening on each episode, rather than the mystery surrounding them.
Unfortunately, since the games are so random and different from each other, we never know what kind of episode we are getting. For example, while episode two was a funny and cute episode about nurturing a baby panda, episode three was about survival and fighting some strange plants that can also copy the streamers’ bodies. In other words, it may be too random for some people’s taste. Of course, it doesn’t help that we don’t have any explanation whatsoever of what is happening, but I actually like the random side of Nakanohito Genome – I love the excitement of not knowing what is going to happen next.
Strong Voice Acting, Animation Not So Much
One thing that we can see the producers did not look to any expense is the voice acting. While watching the first episodes, you will find yourself remembering the voices you are listening to from somewhere. Well, that makes sense since most of the cast is well-known.
For example, Akatsuki Iride, who seems to be the main character among all the other main characters, is voiced by Daiki Yamashita. For the ones who follow voice actors’ careers, you already know who he is, but for the ones who may not take that into account, he is the one who voices Izuku Midoriya from MHA. Other actors that voiced popular characters present on this Anime are Akari Kitou – Demon Slayer’s Nezuko’s voice actress, Kouki Uchiyama – voiced Raku Ichijou from Nisekoi… Well, you get the picture! Most of the VAs have some experience, and you can see that with how fluent conversations are between characters.
Animation-wise is not the best I’ve seen – it’s not terrible, but it’s pretty average. Overall, I like the characters’ design and surroundings, but, at the same time, I think animation could be more polished in some scenes as well as have more movement in some parts. Nevertheless, it’s good enough to watch without giving you an eye-sore.
It’s Interesting, But Not For Everyone
Nakanohito Genome caught my attention, and I intend to watch it until the end, but it’s not for everyone. It’s way too random, at least in these three first episodes I’ve watched, and, with twelve episodes, there is no way they can create a proper character development for each streamer. Nevertheless, if you are looking for an Anime to watch that won’t make you think that much and the objective is just to be entertained for 20 minutes, then Nakanohito Genome can be the perfect Anime for you at the moment. Especially if you are into gaming! 🙂
What about you? Have you watched Nakanohito Genome? What are your thoughts on it? Tell me everything in the comments! ^^
This one started out a bit weird and I did kind of feel it was similar to Danganronpa but then it seemed to find its own feet and seemed to get stronger each episode, until the midseason when it suddenly just kind of felt stalled. This one ended up interesting but not one I’d rush to recommend unless someone had watched a whole lot of anime and was looking for something a bit different.
Hmmm… From what you said I’m not sure if I should go and finish it then xD
