Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Episode 16 Discussion & Gallery

So, as a newcomer to the series, Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Gou episode 16 was even more confusing than the last one. In some parts, I did understand the first half of the episode – the scenes that Rika remembers while being gutted by Satoko are the original stories of Higurashi. For example, we can see Keiichi killing Satoko’s uncle in the woods, which is different from what happens in this sequel. Even so, the scene plays out the same way as Keiichi’s dream. It’s an interesting plot, I’ll give you that. But again, it would be far more enjoyable if I watched the original Higurashi, and I think the authors shouldn’t have said that newcomers to the series would understand everything.

The thing I didn’t get was the part behind Rika being cursed because she dreamt of leaving the village. Of course, I don’t know what the curse is and how it happens. I also don’t know what’s Myio’s role on all of this (she is considered the main antagonist – I had to look this up). However, if there’s really a deity who curses Rika, why did he wait until she was a teenager to pull her back in time? In fact, how did the characters end up being able to find a good ending, even if temporarily, in the first place? My best bet is that Myio isn’t the one behind all of this. Someone must have found her research and decided to finish the work Myio wasn’t able to. Of course, I was only able to come up with this theory after doing some research. It’s impossible for newcomers to know all this.

In short, I’m starting to wonder if it isn’t better to just watch the original story before coming back and watching episode 17. The truth is – Rika seems to be ok with living in the village now, but there are still 6 episodes to go. This way, there’s still a lot to unfold. The visuals were great, though. Not sure how Rika would survive so much time while having someone removing her intestines, but it was great for the gore. Did you enjoy Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Gou episode 16?
