Cautious Hero – An Isekai that is Actually Funny!?
Hello everyone, and welcome to our shelter! 🙂 Before I dive into the post for today, I just want to say something real quick. It’s been challenging to write in the past few weeks. First, I was swamped with work, then when I finally was able to catch up, I got sick. In other words, my work ended up pilling again and I’m playing the catch-up game all over again. In other words, I’m completely off track when it comes to the Anime fall season. Hopefully, October is going to be a better month, and I’ll be able to write more, as well as reading your content more often.
Talking about reading, I also had a small crisis on my website, and my hoster had to ‘reinstall’ the website. Because of this, Anime Shelter got disconnected from WordPress.com. Now, after I connected it again, my posts are taking HOURS to appear on the WP reader. So, it may happen that my posts are not showing on your reader. The best solution I can see is for you to subscribe to my newsletter. I’m going to try my best to send a weekly email with all the posts for the week. This way, I won’t spam you, but give you some reading material that you’ll hopefully want to read 🙂
Okay, now that is out of the way, let’s talk about Cautious Hero: The Hero Is Overpowered but Overly Cautious (Shinchou Yuusha: Kono Yuusha ga Ore Tueee Kuse ni Shinchou Sugiru in Japanese).

Cautious Hero Synopsis
Ristarte is an ambitious Goddess who wants to achieve the highest rank among her equals. For that, she will need to save many worlds, difficult ones to protect that is. One day, she is given the task to rescue an S-level (difficult-wise) world. To do so, she will need the best hero she can get. After long research, she finds the perfect candidate – Seiya Ryuuguiin. However, there is a small weakness she overlooked. Seiya is ridiculously over-cautious, making her job extremely hard to do.
Cautious Hero is Actually Funny
Probably because it’s very difficult to humor me, I’ve seen my share of ‘comedic’ Isekais that ultimately fail to make me even chuckle. Some can make me giggle here and there, like Tsuujou Kougeki from the Summer season, but I can’t remember one funny Isekai that entertained me for three episodes straight. Cautious Hero was able to do that.
I believe the main reason Cautious Hero works so well is that it’s not following the overused punchlines we have seen in different settings. For example, it’s not unheard of Animes playing with Isekai’s clichés to make the audience laugh. However, the problem is that, when used too many times, the jokes themselves become the cliché. Here, in Cautious Hero, the approach is pretty refreshing, and the jokes are something that I’m not expecting to happen. I mean, I couldn’t stop myself besides laughing out loud when I saw Seiya using his most powerful attack on a low-level slime over and over to the point the monster is nothing more than pure ashes. The same happened when, while trying to defend a town from a boss, the Hero ends up destroying the village… After he had killed the boss.
Ristarte herself is used for many comedic bits throughout the episodes. Typically, her punchlines are about the reaction to whatever Seiya is doing or has done. Her animation is always pretty funny and props to the voice actress who translates the character’s voice perfect to instigate laughs on the viewers.
Cautious Hero is Light-Hearted
Comedic Animes don’t really need to focus on the story and the characters too much. Honestly, I prefer creators using their time to write funny punchlines than actually a good character evolution or story flow. However, since Cautious Hero is an isekai, I think it’s still important to mention this part.
I firmly believe that if you are looking for a deep Isekai with one of the best plots ever made, then Cautious Hero is not for you. For now, neither the story or the characters are clicking with me. Though a little different than usual, most of the tale is brushed away to give screen time to the comedic factor. There is nothing wrong with that, but it’s essential that you understand what are you getting yourself into. I mean, if you are looking for something similar to The Rising of The Shield Hero, you are not going to encounter here.
Is Cautious Hero Worth Watching?
Briefly, my answer is yes! It’s an Anime for everyone’s taste, though? Probably not! Cautious Hero is a comedic Anime, and it hasn’t deviated from that in the past three episodes. I don’t know what is in store for the rest of the season, but I hope the creators continue to focus more on the comedy rather than something else. Though different, I do believe that if Cautious Hero tries to include some seriousness around its story, things are just going to fall apart.
In the end, I advise you to watch Cautious Hero and see for yourself if it works for you. Of course, it only makes sense if you are into comedic Anime, thought. I know that this season is full of popular Animes getting new seasons, but, try to find some time for the new ones coming out 😉
What about you? Have you watched Cautious Hero? What are your thoughts about it? Also, what is your favorite comedy Anime of all time? Write that down in the comments below!!!
I’ve enjoyed the first few episodes of this one and am finding that Ristarte and Seiya are a good pairing as their personalities are both exaggerated but in a way that balance out each other. So far I’ve been pretty amused by this though as with most comedy I am worried that they will run out of material by the mid-season. Still, so far so good.
