Isekai Cheat Magician Is Boring!

Isekai Cheat Magician Is Boring!

Hello everyone and welcome to our shelter! 🙂

So, to be completely blunt, I’m in a small creative block when it comes to writing about Isekai Cheat Magician. Yeah, by the name I was already imaging that this Anime was going to be your regular Isekai with nothing new to bring into the table. Well, I wasn’t wrong! However, and I never thought I would say this, I was expecting a lot more action!

The thing is, the characters talk, and talk, and talk… And talk some more! I’m all forward world-building, story build-up and creating your setting. But, 3 freaking episodes without a decent fight? In an isekai? I’m just completely surprised, in a bad way.

A Boring Concept and a Weak Build-Up

Isekai Cheat Magician starts as most of other Isekais you may know. A girl makes a summoning spell whose purpose is to bring our main characters to this fantasy world.

They arrive at this world, they encounter a monster right away and they are saved by a bunch of adventurers passing by. Of course, they have the extreme luck of these adventurers being the best people on Earth. Not only they escort them back to the city, free of charge, they also give them some money to come around until they find themselves a job.

Isekai Cheat Magician Remia

Through this, they end up meeting Remia, a powerful mage who is able to discover their strength. Since there is “cheat” in the middle of the Anime’s name, you can guess how strong they are. I’m not giving the numbers because they’re just random to me. But Rin has the same power of Remia and is able to control the 4 elements. 1 element more than this strong mage, which makes her stronger than Remia now that I think about it. Then, we have Taichi who has a power 3 times superior compared to Remia. Moreover, Taichi is not a mage but a sorcerer. This means he has special and unique skills which even Remia is not able to know what they are.

From here, they just need 3 weeks of training to control their own powers. And in the third episode, they are already starting their life as rank E adventurers. By the end of the episode, they are promoted to rank D and they are invited by Myura, Rin’s teacher, to become a party of 3.

Therefore, we have 3 episodes of build-up. Clearly, this show is going to give us an extreme amount of information, right? No!

A Lot Of Talking Without Saying Much

Isekai Cheat Magician Taichi

In short, the problem with Isekai Cheat Magician is that the characters talk, and talk, but they don’t really say much. To be honest, I don’t even recall what the show talks for the most part.

It’s hard for me to explain, but let’s see if I’m able to get there. Basically, we have 3 episodes with few, close to none, action scenes. This way, I expect to have a full and throughout explanation about the fantasy world, its problems, its culture, etc. Moreover, I expect to have a clear understanding of the characters and their motives to be what they are. Even with all of that, I still think I don’t have enough content for 3 episodes, but we will let that be.

Isekai Cheat Magician rank E mission

Well, truth is, we don’t get any of that. First, the main characters are just being led by their surroundings to do this and that. Something that I actually understand since they were just summoned to a foreign world. Nevertheless, in episode 3, they seem completely ok with it and do their lives as they lived there for a fair amount of time. Secondly, there is no remark about the problems happening to this world or even a hint about why they were summoned. Third, not even the characters who already live in the world seem to have any kind of motives to do what they do.

Shortly, the characters, the story, the build-up… Basically, everything is bland and not interesting at all which is sort of insane taking into account there are 3 episodes to create something good.

And There Is No Action Whatsoever

Ok, there are some “action” scenes here and there… It’s not like they don’t fight at all during these 3 episodes. However, most of the fight scenes take around 1 minute, maybe 2 and that’s it. Something that makes sense since the main characters are so strong. In other words, it normally takes them one attack to win the fight.

So, I think I can say there is not really any action happening. Especially when even that one attack k.o. is not really amazingly animated. Long story short, the action scenes are also boring.

Isekai Cheat Magician Myura

In the end, Isekai Cheat Magician is neither good or bad, it’s just plain boring! Which, to be honest, it’s even worse than being bad. At least, when Animes are bad, we at least get some feelings out of it, even it’s anger. Now, when the show is plain boring, it just makes you feel you are even wasting more of your precious time.

What about you? Have you watched Isekai Cheat Magician? What are your thoughts on it? Tell me everything in the comments down below!

  1. I don’t mind the series to be honest, it just fills another need to me compared to , let’s say fire force or astra,
This is a show I put on, when friends keep me busy with whatsapp or discord, but they respond to slow to fully keep me entertained. I just put this on in the background, while I wait. I dont feel frustrated to let it run , but I also dont lose were the story is going so I dont need to be to focussed. It’s a good anime for when you really can’t focus on a series, but have to much free time on your hand to do nothing, which oddly happens a lot to me. It also works well before going to bed, just put it on. I get entertained enough, but dont get all hyped to watch something new and dont have all sorts of after thoughts in my head.
It’s like if good anime is a three course meal, this one is a plain hamburger. Not bad not good either.. but boy can you crave a hamburger at times.

  2. I’m still enjoying this one as popcorn viewing. It doesn’t do anything unexpected and is just kind of relaxing to turn your brain off and watch. That said, I’m not going to argue with anyone who tells me it is derivative, boring or anything else because it really isn’t a great anime and is kind of just as average as they come.

    1. I guess you are right… It’s a good one to turn off your head. But, I don’t know, I prefer an Anime like Given to relax or Do Your Like Your Mom?… You know, it’s relaxing, but there is still something interesting happening in the screen xD

      1. Do You Like Your Mom was one I have dropped this season because I found the mother character just too pathetic to watch. It was irritating every time she opened her mouth to simper or whine and her rapid recovery when her son finally didn’t berate her just made me want to roll my eyes. Needless to say I wasn’t exactly having fun watching it.
