An Anime About Sex Without Being Sexual | O Maidens in Your Savage Season

An Anime About Sex Without Being Sexual | O Maidens in Your Savage Season

Hello everyone, and welcome to our shelter! ๐Ÿ™‚ Today I’m going to talk about an Anime which may have been under you radar this Summer Season, O Maidens in Your Savage Season (Araburu Kisetsu no Otome-domo yo.)

It’s nothing new to have an Anime which combines teenagers with the theme sex, Domestic na Kanojo is one example of that. However, only a few are able to show teenagers getting to know about sexuality without using fanservice or ecchi moments in between. Therefore, I have to say it’s a breath of fresh air to watch an Anime which portrays, in such a natural way, teenagers trying to understand what is sex all about.

Breaking Up Culture Stigmas

O Maidens in Your Savage Season funny

O Maidens in Your Savage Season is about five girls who compose the Literature Club. One day, one of the books they are reading ends up being about sex, and the girls start discussing this theme. Unsurprisingly, all of the girls are interested in sex and sexuality as also what it means to have sex with someone. Since they all have their own distinct personalities, they also have different approaches when it comes to sexuality.

The story goes from there and, what I thought it would be more of a comedic type of Anime, ended up being an engaging story about teenagers growing up into adults. More than sex, this show is about romance, friendship, and fighting their own struggles.

O Maidens in Your Savage Season Hitoha crying

I can’t remember the exact age when sexuality entered my mind and started to become an interesting subject. I just remember it was around my early teen years. Although I wasn’t so naive as the girls in the show, I do remember to have similar conversations as them. Truth is, even if it is a taboo for some cultures, everyone ends up thinking about sex sooner or later. So, it’s nice to see an Anime that tries to go against Japanese stigma, show that teenage girls also think about sex and that it’s completely fine.

To be honest, I’m amazed how the Anime grabs the theme of sexuality and makes an interesting coming of age story. Yeah, the girls are indeed in the pursuit to better understand what sex is, but in the meanwhile, they also grow up and gain maturity in other aspects of life as well.

Different Approaches Regarding Sexuality

O Maidens in Your Savage Season

The story of O Maidens in Your Savage Season is only able to grab my attention so much because of the characters. Even if the characters followed TV troupes entirely, it would be interesting to see their reactions regarding sex.

However, the five girls from the Literature Club add a little more to the game than just that. Yes, it’s easy to see that each one of the girls will fall in one of the dere types. However, while the story develops, they come up of that shell and become an original character which will be difficult to label.

Nonetheless, I love how the characters end up being so different because it shows completely different perspectives around the subject. I mean, while Hitoha tries to get the most information she can to write her erotic novel, Rika completely bans the word “sex” from the club. It’s these perspectives which cover a vast spectrum that makes the Anime even more interesting for me.

O Maidens in Your Savage Season cute

Honestly, O Maidens in Your Savage Season is probably going to end up in my list of underrated Animes of the season. I love when Anime shows tackle subjects like this one and make such a natural story around it! I cannot wait to see how these characters are going to develop as also how they will come up with terms with their sexuality. It’s a bumpy trip, but it’s one that everyone needs to make.

What about you? Have you watched O Maidens in Your Savage Season? Tell me everything in the comments!

  1. This show is fantastic at tackling puberty and teenage sexuality in all of its awkward glory.

It is SUPREMELY underrated. I love all the characters in this and how relatable they are to us.

  2. Thank you for this take. I didn’t really give this show a chance because I guessed it was just going to be a bunch of… well, you know. I may give it a shot. ๐Ÿ™‚

    Also… How’ve you been? ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Hahaha! I know, from the synopsis it really seems that is going that way. But, until now it has been free of any fanservice ๐Ÿ˜›

I’m doing good thanks! Still figuring out how to balance my new job with blogging, but I think I’m slowing getting into it xD what about you?

      1. Doing minimal blogging these days, but keeping things going! Really enjoying this anime season. Are you still streaming games?

        1. Nope, had to stop doing that due to lack of time ๐Ÿ™ I’m actually not even blogging at the moment, hopefully I’ll be able to change that next week xD

  3. Well…alas, I canโ€™t see this one, as once again itโ€™s not available for me. Which seems to be the trend this season here in Holland. Iโ€™m lucky that I at least have access to Fire Force so there is that. I will be adding it to my list though, and hopefully at some point it comes out here as well ?

    1. Damn! It seems that this season you are out of luck! >.< Hopefully you will be able to watch somewhere in the near future! Well, Fire Force is a good Anime, so let's focus on the good stuff xD

        1. I really need to rewatch it because I can no longer remember the final episodes. Maybe we could think on doing a collab about it ๐Ÿ™‚ Think about it, no pressure ^.^

  4. Hmmmโ€ฆ Sex first hit my mind around ten. Hormones finally stopped raging in my late teens.

Kuzu no Honkai is an interesting exploration of teen sexuality for an older group of teens. But it actually has sex.

It is almost impossible to honestly explore teen sexuality without someone screaming about how sick you are. Does anyone really think a 16 or even a 13-year-old doesnโ€™t have a libido? Or that it is a truth that ought not to be explored?

    Iโ€™ll have to watch it.

    1. Yeah, I’m not really sure why there is such a taboo around it! The majority of people starts having interest in the subject sooner rather than later, so I believe it’s way better to have an open conversation about it.

      Hope you enjoy it ^^
